Concrescere
Handmade accordion book with concrete covers
Concrescere is a Latin verb meaning "to grow together".
I bound these images in concrete, inspired by the sight of a plant pushing its way up through concrete. Despite the harsh medium imposed upon nature by human-made structures, life finds ways to grow with it.
Many of the photographs within these books are of olive trees in Spain. One must grease the mold in order for the concrete not to stick to it, for these I used olive oil, which you can smell faintly on the books.
